These instructions apply to Windows XP Service Pack 2. If you are running a pre-SP2 version of Windows XP you should update to Service Pack 2 as it provides improved security and wireless support.
First, ensure that your wireless connection is set to detect wireless network settings automatically:
- Go to Control Panel and open Network Connections.
- Right-click on the wireless connection icon and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, tick the check box marked Show icon in notification area when connected.
- On the Wireless Networks tab, tick the check box marked Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
The presence of a wireless network will be detected automatically and the notification Wireless networks detected will appear in the taskbar.
- Click on the caption to see a list of available networks.
- Alternatively, right-click on the networking icon in the taskbar and select
View available wireless networks. - If more than one network is shown, select the network named KINGSWIRELESS.
- Click on Connect.
You will see a message informing you that you are connecting to an unsecured network.
- Click on Connect anyway.
- Click on Connect once more.
The entry for KINGSWIRELESS will change to indicate a successful connection.
